State data for the NAEP mathematics assessment covered fourth graders in 47 states, territories, and other jurisdictions and eighth graders in 44 states and jurisdictions.

Many but not all states and jurisdictions showed increases in mathematics performance for the assessment. NAEP Validity Studies Panel Responses to the Reanalysis of TUDA Mathematics Scores. This report explores the consequences of differences in mathematics content emphasis between NAEP and selected state assessments for estimating score means for TUDAs.

The central finding of the validity study is that the NAEP mathematics assessment is sufficiently robust to support the main conclusions that have been drawn about U.S.

and state progress in mathematics since NAEP results show achievement in mathematics rising steadily over the years for all subgroups, although gaps among subgroups.

NOTE: NAEP scales were derived separately by subjects and grades, and therefore scores cannot be compared across subjects and grades.
